North American Agroforestry Conference

Jaconette Mirck from the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg, a partner in the AGFORWARD project, was a keynote speaker at the North American Agroforestry Conference. The event was hosted by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, USA from June 1-3 2015. The theme was “Agroforestry as a Catalyst for On-Farm Conservation and Diversification”.

The three day meeting was attended by about 100 people including practitioners and academic and governmental researchers. In addition to two days of presentation, participants visited the riparian buffer project at the Bear Creek National Restoration Watershed. The project began in 1990 to provide clean water, stable stream channels, and perennial plant community corridors.

Jaconette Mirck presented results from the AGFORWARD project (the initial quantification of agroforestry study research), and some key activities of the European Agroforestry Federation. She also presented a poster describing some of the research carried out by BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg during the first year of the AGFORWARD project.
