Modeling workshop in Portugal

An AGFORWARD modeling workshop was hosted by Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) in Lisbon from Monday 22 to Thursday 25 February 2016. It focused on the modelling of agroforestry for arable farms using the Yield-SAFE and Farm-SAFE bio-economic models and was attended by AGFORWARD participants from Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK.

Overall it was a successful workshop and participants had the opportunity to develop and run the models for their own locations and practices. The systems modelled included walnut and cereals, poplar and sugar beet, short rotation coppice (willow, poplar, and black locust) with arable crops, and wild cherry with arable crops. Although Lisbon was not particularly warm or dry in February, the library provided an excellent venue and the campus at the University of Lisbon was beautiful.
